Outrigger's OZONE program supports coral planting to nurture Konotta Island's surrounding reefs for future generations.
This important effort is guided by Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort's resident marine biologist Amelia. Amelia's experience with coral conservation and restoration is a perfect fit for Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort where we've partnered with Best Dives to initiate coral planting in our home reefs.
New coral beds are being created with reusable steel reinforcement rods where concrete tablets, seeded with new coral, are placed. Over time, an entire reef structure grows and flourishes. Existing reef structures are carefully maintained by controlling invasive species like the crown-of-thorns starfish. See the progress of coral planting on Facebook.
